Maria Tsouroufli was appointed Professor of Education at Brunel University in 2019, having accomplished an excellent record of international and interdisciplinary research in gender equality in education and work. Professor Tsouroufli’s work is concerned with the interfaces of gender identities, policy discourses and professionalism and is informed by an intersectional approach to inequality and a feminist post-structuralist framework. She is a prolific writer in the field of gender equality in education with a particular focus on developing, implementing, and evaluating whole-school approaches to gender equality in higher, secondary and primary education (Athena Swan, Gender Equality Charter Mark, Gender Action) in the UK and internationally (Australia, Europe). Professor Tsouroufli has successfully collaborated with international scholars, government organisations and NGOs, and formed sustainable collaborations with foundations and organisation (NHS, National Foundation for Educational Research) in order to deliver funded projects awarded from various prestigious bodies (Horizon 2020, EFF, Erasmus Plus, ESRC, Camden City Council, HEA, HEFCE). She brings a breadth and depth of experience in the field of gender equality and methodological expertise in various approaches (quantitative/qualitative, innovative/traditional) across the fields of education, sociology, gender studies and medicine/medical education and health. Professor Tsouroufli will be leading the BC project and have overall responsibility for quality assurance, budgets, and timely delivery of milestones. She will be working closely with the BC and the project lead in India to ensure excellent communication and collaboration.
